THE CYGNUS ALIGNMENT: Connect with The Cosmic Swan

THE CYGNUS ALIGNMENT: Connect with The Cosmic Swan

The Cygnus Alignment is one of the many Starseed Alignments throughout the year that I enjoy celebrating. The Stars of Cygnus (The Swan) Constellation will be in alignment  with the Sun from January 21st through February 24th every year. Cygnus is a huge constellation! The opposite alignment occurs six months later when Cygnus is in opposition to the Sun in the Northern Hemisphere and more visible in the night sky.

In this article, we will explore all things Cygnus from stars to symbolism and from astrology to the rare Cygnus Starseeds.

The Cygnus Constellation & Star System

Cygnus is a prominent constellation in the northern sky. Its name means “the swan” in Latin and it is also known as the Swan constellation.

Cygnus is associated with the myth of Zeus and Leda in Greek mythology. The constellation is easy to find in the sky as it features a well-known asterism known as the Northern Cross, which appears within the Summer Triangle, which appears high above the horizon during the northern hemisphere summer. Deneb, the star at the top of the Northern Cross, is one of the bright stars of the Summer Triangle, along with Vega and Altair.

Notable objects in the constellation include Cygnus A, the first black hole every discovered and Cygnus X-1, a famous x-ray source.

The Cygnus Star System also contains 97 stars with exoplanets, including bright stars Deneb and Albireo, the yellow dwarf Kepler-22, which hosts the exoplanet Kepler-22b, and several well-known nebulae: the  the Cocoon Nebula (IC 5146), the Pelican Nebula, the North America Nebula, and the Veil Nebula.

Swan Symbolism

Swan symbolism and meaning can conjure images of purity, innocence and magic as well as the sense that something is unique and one of a kind.

The Swan teaches us to handle trying times with grace while also guiding us in the ways of love and loyalty. Swans symbolize the journey to find purity, love and romance, even at personal sacrifice.

Fairy tales feature swans as emblems of devotion, loyalty, and monogamy; this comes from the fact that Swan mates once in a lifetime. Aphrodite, the Greek Goddess of love and beauty, as well as the sun God Apollo, both had Swan as a Sacred Animal. When the Swan shows up, it may be a good time to examine how you are moving through the world. The Swan may also be signaling a dramatic growth in your intuitive nature. Pay attention to your instincts, and, more importantly, honor them.

Have you ever seen a picture of Swans with their necks intertwined? Romantics often marvel at their posture during intimate moments, as Swans seem to embody the idea of intertwining hearts, minds and bodies with a partner. This may be just one of many reasons Swans are associated with Soul Mates, romance and weddings.

Folklore tells us that Swans sing a beautiful melody when a person dies. Thus, we come by the term “swan song;” this is even more remarkable in that the wild swans’ voice is rather raucous. Despite their appearances, swans are very fierce and strong. One bite can break a human arm!

When Swan floats into your life, it may well portend finding your soul mate. True love comes on Swan’s feathers. For those who have recently married, it represents true harmony and happiness. The Cygnus Alignment does occur right around Valentine's Day afterall.

Swans fly and swim – touching both emotions and higher thought. Have you thought deeply about your desires and goals? Have you reached for the sky with a dream? Swan Animal Spirit challenges you to change, to have faith, and let yourself truly shine with sacred beauty.

Some stories tell of Swans being associated with the river Styx, that flows through the Underworld, thus further giving a link between Swans and the cycle of death and rebirth. To some, Swan is associated with grieving the loss of a loved one or experiencing the loss of a romantic partner. When Swan shows up it may be to help you process such a loss and to help remind you that the bonds of love are eternal.

Cross Cultural Swan Mythology

Native American - Swans are associated with the Northern direction in Lakota tradition and thus are associated with harsh winds that bring purity. Swan is also associated with spirituality, harmony and love. Some Native cultures see the Swan and other birds, especially white birds, as representatives of the Sky. By some reports, Swans are believed to be the souls of Shamans voyaging from one plane to another.

Christianity - Swan meaning in Christianity can be symbolic of grace, faith and purity. In many stories, Swans are portrayed as loving, gentle and silent, also being symbolic of sacred devotion and spiritual love. Some Christians associate the dying Swan’s song as being the spirit of Jesus or are reminders of the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross. Swans are often found adorning ceremonial objects in the Christian faith as well.

Celts used Swans as a symbol of careful, calculated movement and as a spirit of emotional transformation. Several Deities in Celtic tradition have Swan as a companion or a Sacred Animal, including Lugh and Bridget. Stories of Swans in Celtic Mythology say that spirits can take the form of a Swan, and must walk in pairs to travel between life and the otherworld.

In many tales, Swans are not only symbols of love and romantic connection, but also transformation and mystical encounters. Though modern mystics associate Swans with Water for obvious reasons, Ancient Celtic cultures identified Swan spiritual meaning with the power of the Sun. In some depictions, Swans are shown pulling the chariot of the Sun God. Thus, Swan symbolic meaning is also connected to the symbolism of the Sun, light, vitality, growth, purity and joy.

As Swans can traverse the realms of sky, water and land, they are also associated with travel through the Astral planes or transitioning among the many spiritual realms. Water is symbolic of emotion, love and healing. The sky, or Air, is symbolic of intellect, grace and movement and land or Earth is symbolic of practical security and abundance. Thus, Swan symbol meaning can relate to the power of each of these three elements in the natural world.

In Hindu lore, Swans are depicted as the Vahana of Lord Vishnu, giving Swan spiritual meaning significance in this culture as well. Hindu tradition has texts that speak of two Swans who pair and live within the Divine consciousness where they live on lotus honey bearing all knowledge. In India, The Swan laid the Cosmic Egg from which the Gods were born. Here the Swan remains the image of flawless unity.

In Japan, Swan lives in heaven but descended to protect a peaceful young boy and eventually became his wife to protect the tribe from dying out.

In Chinese mythology, Swan symbol meaning is similar to that of a Fairy, or a playful spirit that can be a trickster. Quan Yin is often associated with swans and may appear as a swan when embodying the third ray of the 12 rainbow rays, which embodies unconditional love, kindness, and forgiveness.

In Buddhist traditions the Swan is a protective deity who becomes a Swan when he dies. Some believe that reversing the energetic associations in the Yin and Yang symbol relates to the attribution of feminine energy to White Swans and Masculine energy to Black Swans when it comes to occult associations with these two creatures.

How to Utilize The Cygnus Alignment

Are you under pressure? Faced with a troubling romance? The Cygnus Alignment and The Cosmic Swan Spirit Guides can help! Swan teaches you to handle trying times with grace while also guiding you in the ways of love, loyalty and can strengthen, enlighten, and support you.

When Cygnus, The Swan shows up, it may be a good time to examine how you are moving through the world. Are you letting grace guide you or are you lumbering through events that require greater poise?

In struggling relationships, The Cygnus Alignment may help to rejuvenate love and loyalty. When working through problematic times, Cygnus Swan energy also inspires self-love when you probably feel undeserving or under-appreciated.  No matter what elements you traverse, Cygnus brings you safely to the next cycle, the next opportunity.

It is said that Swans remain a float and this has led to some lore that Sailors seek Swans as a positive omen for their voyages. When you work with The Cygnus Alignment Swan Energy, you may be guided to keep your head above water and remain graceful no matter how large the waves around you become.

The word “Swan” is derived from an Indo-European word that means “Sing.” Thus the Swan Song, not only a reference to the association between The Cygnus Alignment and the cycle of death and rebirth, is also significant for the power of voice and magic of singing. The Cygnus Alignment can remind you to find your voice and carry your own song. Are you willing to sing what is in your Soul?

The Swan, like all Birds, is a messenger from the Divine. When The Cygnus Alignment shows up every year, you may be asked to release some aspect of your individual ambitions in order to dedicate yourself to love, a quest or a path toward purity and spiritual connection.

Cygnus Starseeds

Cygnus is a star system that is not discussed much at all. Cygnus Starseeds and beings from Cygnus are very old souls and many of the expansive true light spiritual teachings originated there.

Cygnus can be difficult energy to be around, because they are just so full of class and grace it makes human earth forms look even more clunky than they already do.  Cygnusians are incredibly intelligent and often choose soul contracts that are very difficult - they like to be challenged and many of these incarnated Starseeds wanted to chose a life that really taught them the hard knocks.

Cygnusian Beings from Cygnus include a few different species. Greys, Avians, and humanoids. The greys are a threat while the Humanoid Cygnusians and Avian hybrids are helpful. They grew tired of the greys control so they started having souls incarnate on Earth in the 1980’s and up to be a beacon on hope, strength, and healing during this ascension cycle.

Cygnus Starseeds are not mean, but may come across as distant. They do seem to be withdrawn even with people around, in some other place in time but physically sitting right next to you. They do this because they feel like they do not belong being a part of the everyday crap in this world, but still need it to learn from.

They make great listeners because they are almost always quiet for the most part. Some have said they are dull, but they have a fun side. It is just that they prefer business over pleasure first, then they get to the fun. They are really secretive, and mysterious, and do not like having their personal facts being revealed to anyone. In a family, they are oriented, but they are the one quiet relative standing off away from everyone in a family photo. You can almost always pick them right out.

These Starseeds and Cygnus Archetypal energy is really wonderful because they get things done right, and are very precise in what they do, when they do it. They will be technical about everything. You will find them taking forever to complete any project because they take their time, even in normal daily life things.

The nature of the Cygnusians is a loving one.  Cygnus Starseeds have various interests that may range from sailing to skydiving. After all, that activity these Starseeds are quite content to float and look to the stars, contemplating dreams. In everyday life, they loves beautiful people and things. A walk through the flowers, an artsy antique shop, and a striking profile all capture these Starseeds' attention.
